A tribute to Phife & Q-Tip from Tribe Called Quest

Back in the hood.. promenade attended,
Nothing’s changed but my heart is dented,
It’s high tide but there is a great divide,
Between this, that and the other ..
I’m taking home a cappuccino,
For my mother.

The office is a virtual space,
Entrepreneurship is sheer Grace,
No wires, no cables, no roles,
Only direct communication with souls.

Rave and rant all you want,
For all the things you won’t / can’t,
Because even I know less than an ant.

Digital this, digital that.
What’s a poor man going to do,
With an electronic phat?

The afternoon sun is coming out,
That’s what this is all about.
The clouds are parting without a doubt
Making way… For the Lord,
For its the Lord who shines…
In every smile and every prize,
Do I have to scream and shout?

Have you taken the time
To stand and look
As a silent witness,
(Maybe it’s none of my business)
to what lies beneath there
Inside the eyes of a being
Who lives with despair.
That haunting… It’s so obvious,
It’s so hard to bear.

I sit here in disbelief
At the concrete pillars at my feet.
As I step into ocean
There are no thoughts, only commotion,
For having sold my mini-disc player
And lost that layer
Of the ear, of the mind…
What an ocean, underlined.
