Mental Health – The Brain and Central Nervous System

This article talks about brain chemistry from a physical and empirical level, by trying to explain where the physicality of chemical imbalances affect the central nervous system and thereby cause imbalances. It could be genetic, drug induced (substance abuse) or something completely different like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), a condition related to odd obsessive behaviours. Once again, the fact is that 50% of the battle is to accept you have a problem and that you are seeking help. The important thing to remember is that medications are the first line of defence.

When the brain and body are disturbed due to a neurochemical imbalance then the perceptions of reality become altered. The base of the brain where it connects to the spine cord and is the fulcrum of the connection between the brain and the central nervous system (CNS) can be detectable. This is where all the nerve endings come together. This is the fulcrum point for all signals connecting the brain and body. When there is an imbalance then the anxiety can cause thinking disorders in many forms. The medications balance the thinking. You have to take these medicines for a long time for them to have effect.

The “chemistry of the brain is affected.” This creates a long dependency on medications to balance the secretions in the brain and either a lack of that chemical or too much of it (dopamine). I am not a doctor and I don’t profess to know a lot about the mechanics of the central nervous system… In the last 20 years I have been through the gamut of physical, mental and emotional chaos. The best thing I could do for myself is to quit smoking in a span of 5 days where 15 years of smoking was reduced to zero. I haven’t touched a cigarette since that day. And walk not just for physical exercise but to: 1. Balance the chemicals and set the tone for the day, and 2. Elevate your mood and well being. Even though I smoked for 15 years my doctor recently gave me a clear chit of health. I brought my smoking to zero in five days. The body rewires itself and so does the brain.

The same chemical in excess causes the person to hear voices, see colours and hallucinations because the brain is “over heated.” It is running on an imbalance of chemicals. I’ve been through severe neurotransmitter imbalances as well as schizophrenia, hallucinations, voices, physical symptoms in the legs and much more in varying shades of a recurrent brain chemistry problem. I will be on anti-psychotic medications for life. This might not be the case for you.
